When LS-LIVE were commissioned to design, manufacture and build the stage set for Jay-Z’s Magna Carter World Tour, they approached SR Creative to produce a graphic solution to help riggers assemble, dismantle and package the set.
Our brief was twofold:
Firstly, to design and produce a colour coded sticker system which would identify not only each of the 38 sections of the Stage Set, but also identify every one of the individual components which made up the entire set. The sticker system enabled the set builders across the world to locate the various sections of the stage with ease, and erect and dismantle in much quicker time. Each set component not only had a unique colour coded part number but also incorporated directional arrows indicating how things fitted together. Even every bolt hole had a colour coded circle indicating which size of pin went into which bolt hole. All in all over 14,000 stickers were created and applied.
Secondly, to design and produce information panels for the Dollies which contained and transported the set components across the world. The colour coded system along with colour coded staging diagrams were then applied to 38 off 2.2m x 1.4m graphic panels which were fixed to the Dollies enabling the correct stage components to be housed in their correct location.
The work SR Creative carried out took Stage Set erection and dismantling to a new level. The man hours saved by this simple graphic solution was phenomenal. Despite the extremely tight deadline, the project was delivered on time and on budget.
